Movie Review and story of 3 idiots
A Brief Plot of 3 idiots:
Farhan (R. Madhavan), Raju (Sharman Joshi) and Rancho (Aamir Khan) are 3 guys studying engineering in a highly prestigious college known as Imperial College of Engineering (ICE). Farhan wants to be a wildlife photographer whereas the rest of the two wants to be an engineer.
The three friends get the hold of the environment at ICE and soon become good friends. However, the brilliancy of Rancho doesn’t meet the same of the two friends. The college dean, Dr. Viru Sahastrabuddhe a.k.a. Virus (Boman Irani), runs the college in a way which Rancho doesn’t approve of. His ideology of studying and teaching differs from the education system in India. Hence, he is continuously seen to be picking up debates with the Virus. However, Rancho falls in love with the Dean’s daughter, Priya (Kareena Kapoor).
Farhan and Raju keep failing their tests while Rancho is always seemed to top the boards. This brings tragedy to the friends, and they once hang out in the college getting extremely drunk. Rancho convinces that Farhan wants be a wildlife photographer which is why he fails his engineering tests, and the reason for Raju to fail is that he is scared and wasted his time worshipping lord instead of studying. Their friends give him a push to go ahead and propose Priya. So they break into Virus’ home and Rancho confesses his love to Priya. Priya also accepts Rancho’s proposal as she is also in love with him. On their way out, Raju, being drunk, pisses on Virus’ doorsteps. This is seen by Virus and the next day, Raju is brought in the dean’s office. He is forced to write a letter which would state his rustication from the college. Virus proposes a counter-proposal that he instead write Rancho’s name instead of his own. Due to love for Rancho and fear of losing engineering study, he can’t handle himself and jumps off the window. He falls into coma.
He is supported by his buddies, mother and Priya which would result in him miraculously fall out of coma and come back to life. Raju, as promised to Rancho, takes his worshipping/religious rings off his fingers and takes the interview, and suggest Farhan to keep up his side of the promise by leaving engineering and taking a wildlife photography job with his favorite photographer. They both do so and despite all complications, Farhan gets his desired job as his family finally supports him and Raju gets the job placement by giving a great interview. They both thank Rancho for making it happen.
On the day of graduation, Rancho is seen leaving without giving anyone a hint of where he is going. Years later, when his two friends come to know of his location, go on for a search for him. They finally find him later on where he is seen running a school where creativity blossoms. Priya, who was about to get married is also convinced by Raju and Farhan to meet Rancho. Priya and Rancho meet with a kiss, and they decide to get married. When found out, Rancho’s real name was Phunukh Wangdu, who happens to be a top leading scientist in India, their college friend, Chatur aka Silencer, apologizes to Rancho for the way he mistreated him all through college as he wants Rancho to sign a deal with his company. The movie ends with Chatur chasing Rancho for the deal.
My Review and Perception of the movie:
Rajkumar Hirani has done another great job at this movie. With a hint of comedy, a lot of inspiration is spread through this movie which he seems to do in many of his movies like Munna Bhai and such. Certain scenes in the movie area pure reflection of comedy only, like Chatur’s speech, and Aamir’s dialogue delivery in many sequences.
Peformances by all actors is A-One. Aamir khan has maintained a college boy looks for this movie, and has portrayed the role of Rancho very well. Sharman has also seen to be doing great with his emotional and scared role in the movie. Farhan’s narration and his acting also makes the movie a best watch. The chemistry between Kareena and Aamir is very interesting in the movie, just as any romantic comedy would be. Other actors who appear in small roles have also done a great job. Huge credit goes to Boman Irani for his flawless acting.
The high point of the film is the fact that director says so much, and more, without losing his sense of humour and the sheer lightness of being. The film is a laugh riot, despite being high on fundas. Certain sequences almost have you rolling in the aisle, like the ragging sequence, Omi’s chamatkar/balatkar speech, the threesome’s wedding crasher sequence, their mournful meal with Raju’s mournful mum and Rancho’s sundry demos to prove how Kareena has chosen the wrong guy for herself. Add to this, the strong emotional core of the film that makes gentle tugs, now and then, at your guts, and you have an almost perfect score. Hirani carries forward his simplistic `humanism alone works‘ philosophy of the Lage Raho Munnabhai series in 3 Idiots too, making it a warm and vivacious signature tune to 2009. The second half of the film does falter in parts, specially the child birth sequence, but it doesn’t take long for the film to jump back on track.
My Rating on 3 idiots:
The movie gets 4.5 stars out of 5 from me.
